FA-PEG-NHS is one of amine reactive folate PEG derivatives that have a folic acid on oneterminus of PEG chain and a succinimidyl NHS group on the other PEG end. Folicacid is also known as vitamin M, vitamin B9 or pteroyl-L-glutamic acid. Folicacid is an essential bioactive molecule for numerous biological functions. It participatesin the synthesis, repairing and methylation of DNA as well as to act as acofactor in many biological reactions. NHS functionalized folic acid PEGenables attachment of folic acid to amine groups from other molecules ormaterials quickly and efficiently. NHS reacts with primary amine group atelevated pH to form a stable amide bond. Flexible PEG chain between NHS andfolate offers better water solubility, less steric hindrance and higherstability.
